What is in the Box

If you saw the old version of this post you can't guess. In that version I named the photo to reveal the answer. Duh! I'm 99 percent sure I know both the purpose of these two little shanty type structures and also what's inside them. Can you guess? Hint. The photo was taken today about 7 miles west of Boston, Massachusetts USA. I'll post the answer tomorrow.

  2. I'm going to be nice and give a hint.

Many people in the area have Italian roots.

  3. My nephew, Mike got it. He emailed me his guess of a fig tree and I think he's right. The reason it's in a "house" for the winter is because it's not anywhere near hardy in this gardening zone for figs. They also can be overwintered by burying them, but I'm guessing this one is too big for that. I can't wait to go back and see it again in spring

Sorry, the "Italian" hint did not lead me to think of figs. I'm surprise the local codes allow such unique solutions to be erected in public view. Resourceful, though.

  5. Huh!?! A fig tree. My father has one (two?) growing in his greenhouse and doing quite well. He's just a bit north of you in NH. No Italian roots though. :)
